🥢 Chopsticks: Game Instructions

Quick Notes

  • Thumbs: For this version of the game, thumbs count as fingers (to settle any debate!).
  • Players: 2 or more (as many as can fit in a circle, though more players mean a longer game).

Setup

  • Everyone stands or sits in a circle.
  • All players start with both hands out, showing 1 finger on each hand.

Aim of the Game

  • Be the last player remaining with at least one active hand!

Gameplay

The game starts with either the previous winner or a chosen first player. On your turn, you must choose one of two actions:

  1. Attack:
    • Tap one of another player’s hands using one of your own active hands.
    • The target player adds your hand’s finger count to their hand (your fingers stay the same).
    • Wrapping around: If a hand reaches or exceeds 5, it wraps around (e.g., if they have 4 and you tap them with 3, the count goes 5, 1, 2).
    • Elimination: If a hand hits 5 fingers, that hand is dead/out. If both of a player’s hands are out, they are eliminated from the game.
    • Turn Order: In this special mode, the person who was just attacked takes the next turn! (If they were knocked out, the turn passes to the next active player).
  2. Split (Requires having one dead hand and an active hand with 2+ fingers):
    • You can redistribute fingers from your active hand onto your dead hand to bring it back into the game.
    • Play then continues to the next player.
Pro-Tip for 2 Players: If there are only 2 players left, splitting can sometimes make the game go on forever. Feel free to disable the Split option once it’s down to a 1-v-1 duel!
